Antwerp is well worth a visit. Still an important port, it also enjoys fame
as the world centre of the diamond trade. It retains many buildings from its
period of glory in the sixteenth century, and its many museums house some
wonderful art-works, especially by Pieter Paul Rubens. The area around the Grote
Markt contains many beautiful old guild-houses, and the impressive Stadhuis.
Within 500 metres of the Grote Markt you can reach the river front, where boat
trips run, the Cathedral, and several important churches and museums. Night life
is lively and varied, with a reputation for excellent live music of all sorts.
