Since re-unification Germany has effectively doubled the sights
available to visitors, as much of Germany's history is found in what was East
Germany. Here you will find not just the old Soviet sector of Berlin, but also
historic cities such as Dresden and Leipzig. The eastern half of Germany also
enjoys vast areas of relatively undeveloped forest, where you can drive or cycle
for miles without seeing another human being.
Or there are the well-established attractions of the former West
Germany. As well as plenty of lovely old town like Wurzburg, Augsburg, and
Bremen, there are the vibrant modern cities of Frankfurt, Hamburg, Stuttgart and
Bonn. The country-side is often delightful, some highlights being the Black
Forest, Rhine Valley and Lake Constance.
To enjoy even a part of this in a country where English is
widely spoken and the people are friendly, why not hire a car and take advantage
of the extensive road network, where the Autobahns are toll free and driving is
a national past-time.
