Chalon-sur-Saone is a busy town and port on the river Saone. The comings and
goings on the river-side jetties are interesting enough, and there are a number
of old half-timbered houses and warehouses in this part of town. Most of the
bars and restaurants are on the island across the Pont St-Laurent. There's a
carnival in March, a festival of street artists in July, and a film festival in
October.
