Fontainebleau is both a pleasant town and a magnificent chateau set in superb
gardens and surrounded by woodland. The chateau dates back to the 12th century.
It is particularly known for its Cours des Adieux where Napoleon bade farewell
to his Imperial Guards. The forest of Fontainebleau spreads over 50,000 acres,
