Roscoff used to be a small fishing port until the cauliflower farmers of
Brittany formed a co-operative in order to export their produce to England. The
success of this operation led to the building of the ferry port in Roscoff and
the gradual expansion of the business until Brittany Ferries is now the leading
operator on the western channel. Roscoff still retains some small town charm,
with typical Breton houses clustered around the old fishing port, and several
bars and restaurants. The ferry terminal is just outside the town.
