Ypres, or Ieper as its known in Flemish, was comprehensively destroyed in the
first World War. It has since been carefully rebuilt and its medieval buildings
reconstructed. As well as the attractions of this new "old town", are many
reminders of the horrors of the war, most notably the In Flanders Fields Museum.
The central square, the Grote Markt, and the surrounding streets, contains the
