Ferry companies operating from Amsterdam
The DFDS Seaways ferry service to Amsterdam actually docks in the port of Ijmuiden. The nearest motorway, the A22, is just a few kilometres away. This runs through a tunnel and enables you to reach the northern side of the river.
Most drivers are likely to be heading towards Amsterdam itself or beyond to the rest of Europe. So head for the A9, following signs for Amsterdam. Once on the A9 just follow signs towards your destination. Amsterdam is less than 40 km, about 45 minutes drive, although traffic can be heavy.
Ijmuiden is first and foremost a busy commercial port. Passenger facilities at the terminal are pretty basic, limited to a convenience store, a gift shop and newsagents, with vending machines offering a range of hot and cold snacks.
If you have already booked your crossing all you need to do is make sure you have the booking reference then follow the signs to the embarkation area for your ferry crossing.

directions to Ijmuiden: From Amsterdam and all points to the south east, take the A9 towards Den Haag, Haarlem and take exit IJmuiden/Beverwijk on to the A22. Leave at the exit for IJmuiden. Follow the "Noordzeecanal" and then follow the signs to the ferry terminal. Interactive route planner |
