Calais is best know as a ferry port, and it's here that you'll find the terminals for P&O Ferries from Dover. Hoverspeed no longer cross from Dover, their last crossing in 2005. Just outside the town, alongside the A16 autoroute, is the terminal for the shuttle trains operated through the Channel Tunnel by Eurotunnel from their Folkestone terminal. Alongside this is the vast Cite Europe shopping centre, where the British stock up on inexpensive French goods. Calais' main attraction is its convenience to the U.K. and the large number of hotels where you can spend the night before venturing further into France.
