A camping holiday in the Vende is a popular option for many. Any one of the many excellent campsites will be busy with British, French and Dutch holiday makers, with a smattering of people from other countries, all enjoying what this coastal region of Western France has to offer.

The obvious attraction is the long wide beaches of white sand where the Atlantic rolls in, creating some great surf on some beaches, but still with plenty of beaches where swimming is safe for everyone. Behind the beaches the sand dunes offer endless fun.

Kids love this part of France, where the resorts such as Les Sables d'Olonne, Saint-Jean-de-Monts and St-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie are very child friendly, with restaurants, pizzerias and burger bars serving everything form budget grub to quality cuisine.

La Vende is not just about the coast, however. The turbulent history of the region is spectacularly re-staged during summer evenings at Le Puy du Fou show near Cholet. Inland from the coast are the atmospheric marshlands of the Marais Poitevin, home to a variety of birds and best explored by flat-bottomed boat. Just off the mainland, in the North of the Vende lies the Ile de Noirmoutier, great for cycling around.
