Newsletter Summer 2010
Regular readers will know that we no longer issue
a regular newsletter. Instead we use
Twitter, the
Drive-Alive Blog, and, lately,
Facebook.
These services allow us to keep in touch more frequently,
sending you snippets on Twitter, a bit more detail on Facebook, and more
in-depth information on our blog. If we have anything which we think everybody
should know, then we can still use the newsletter.
DRIVE-ALIVE ON FACEBOOK
It took us a while to get to grips with the benefits of Facebook, and we're
still learning, but we are now posting regularly to our
Facebook Wall. We see this as the place to inform our
users in more depth than is possible on Twitter, but more informally than
through our blog. For example we expanded on the car hijack scam and onboard
pantomimes mentioned briefly in Twitter, and reported on the forthcoming
move to offer ferry passengers the same rights to compensation for delays
as is given to airline passengers.
But for us the most interesting possibilities lie
in the interactive nature of Facebook. If you visit the
Drive-Alive wall you will see that you can "Comment", so if you've anything
to add or want to tell us what you think, we'd be delighted to hear from
you. There's also a very important (to Drive-Alive) button - the "like"
button. We are new to Facebook, but the more people who "like" us the sooner
our words of wisdom will permeate throughout the Internet. So if you'd like
to give us a boost, click the "like" link!
DRIVE-ALIVE ON TWITTER
Tweets are short texts which we use to let our visitors know what's happening
in the world of driving holidays. Amongst our recent Tweets we warned of
carjacking in Spain, told you about pantomimes on board ferries, and high-lighted
the not often seen discounts on Eurotunnel. We've even been known to use
humour in our Tweets.
The
Drive-Alive Twitter
page is where all our recent Tweets can be found, and if you want to
pass on any of our Tweets then just click the "Retweet" link. You can even
reply to these Tweets, so if you'd like to tell us something or comment
on our website or anything else to do with Drive-Alive, and don't need more
than 140 characters to say it, this is the place to do it
At the top of our Twitter page there is a link to
"Follow Drive-Alive". This is the best way to keep up to date because every
time we post a Tweet you will receive a copy on your own Twitter page. Unless
you already belong, you do need to sign up to Twitter, but this is a quick
process. Apart from providing a user name and password you can get involved
with Twitter as much or as little as you like.
THE DRIVE-ALIVE BLOG
This is where you can find our equivalent of an article about a particular
subject relevant to driving in Europe, or any of the peripheral activities
which accompany a motoring trip on the Continent.
For example, we recently returned from our trip by car to Greece through
the former Eastern European countries of Hungary, Serbia and Macedonia.
We posted a number of articles about the experience. We hope these not only
give a flavour of how interesting and enjoyable we found this journey but
will also prove useful to others thinking of doing the same. Visit the page
about our
driving trip to Greece which contains links to pages for each stage
of our journey.
During the
Volcanic Ash Cloud crisis we used Twitter and the blog to keep people
informed as to how the situation was developing and where there was ferry
availability, with daily posts on the blog and summaries on Twitter.
You can subscribe to our blog to make sure you don't miss a post, send
it to other blogging services, comment, and so on, all using simple links
on the page.
