The Netherlands is an excellent holiday destination, with particular appeal to families and cyclists. Known as the Venice of the North, its canals are flanked by elegant old merchant houses. And of course Amsterdam has a reputation for nightlife. Many other major cities of the Netherlands are well worth a visit, amongst them Rotterdam with its modernist architecture, the capital, the Hague and Delft, home of the famous pottery.
