A famous small town with 10,000 inhabitants at the foot of the magnificent Mont Blanc. Geneva and Annecy 75 km.

Justifying its international reputation, Chamonix offers its visitors a large choice of entertainment and amusements; restaurants, bars, discotheques, cinemas, casino, indoor swimming-pools, riding, walking, many shops.

Access: Chamonix is one of the easiest resorts in the Alps to reach; despite its high altitude skiing the resort itself is not terribly high and is close to the Mont Blanc Tunnel so there is a four lane road running right up to Chamonix which is always well maintained. The driving time from Calais is about 8 hours without stops.

The resort also boasts probably the best rail connections of any ski resort outside Japan, with a TGV high speed link via Saint Gervais travelling at around 170 mph (270 kph).  It's possible to catch the TGV 'Snow Special' in Paris on a Friday evening and be in the resort at just after 11pm.

There are bus connections from Geneva.  Geneva is the closest international airport, only 96 km (60 miles) north west, a 95 minute drive. Low-cost airlines fly to Chambery (90 miles) and Lyon (140 miles).
